Azimuth Sells Bronx Educational Facility to Equality Charter School for $55M

Azimuth Development Group has handed over ownership of a school facility in the East Bronx that appears to have been a build-to-suit construction job for the firm.

Azimuth President Guido Subotovsky signed a $54.5 million deed transfer of 801 Bartholdi Street to Equality Charter School, a tuition-free public school that will use the property as a 63,000-square-foot elementary school, according to property records.

The property appears to have been completed in 2025 and contains two cafeterias, a gymnasium, and 6,000 square feet of recreational space on the rooftop. The site can accommodate 900 students, according to Azimuth’s website.

It’s unclear who brokered the deal. Spokespeople for Azimuth and Equality Charter School did not immediately respond to  requests for comment.

Equality Charter School currently has an elementary school at 3901 White Plains Road, a middle school at 4140 Hutchinson River Parkway East, and a high school at 2141 Seward Avenue, all in the Bronx.

It’s unclear if the school’s administration will be consolidating any of its existing facilities within the new Bartholdi Street location.

Azimuth, founded in 2009 by Subotovsky, specializes in projects that benefit local communities such as the development of affordable housing as well as market-rate units. The company says it has built over 1 million square feet of mixed-use developments in the five boroughs since it was founded.

In terms of educational facilities, Azimuth has previously teamed up with Joy Construction in the $140 million mixed-income development of two buildings and 330 rental units 2069 Bruckner Boulevard.

It leased 12,000 square feet in that development to The Village School in June 2025.
