International financial services firm Aegon is moving its office kingdom to New York City.

Aegon, which was founded in the Netherlands and specializes in life insurance, pensions and retirement plans, has decided on 125 West 57th Street for its new headquarters, inking a 20,600-square-foot lease at the property in Manhattan’s Plaza District owned by Alchemy-ABR Investment Partners and Cain International.

The company will occupy two floors in the recently completed, 30-story office building, according to the landlords. The asking rent and the length of the lease were not disclosed, but the average asking rent for Class A office space in the Plaza District was $97.23 per square foot during the second quarter of 2026, according to research from Colliers

JLL’s Mitchell Konsker, Kristen Morgan, Christine Colley, Kate Roush and Dan Turkewitz represented ownership in this deal, while Aegon was represented by Barry Zeller and David Downey from Cushman & Wakefield

“125 West 57th’s leasing momentum shows how much tenants value new construction — something the Manhattan market has very little of,” Morgan told Commercial Observer. “Aegon’s decision to relocate is further proof of how well this building is performing in the current market.”

C&W did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The deal comes as part of Aegon’s plans to move its head office and legal operations from the Netherlands to the U.S. and to rename the company Transamerica upon completion of the transaction, which is set to be finished by Jan. 1, 2028, according to ownership. Aegon currently operates Transamerica in the U.S.

“We are proud to welcome a company with such a strong global profile to the property,” Christopher Gherlone, a partner at Alchemy-ABR Investment Partners, said in a statement. “Aegon’s decision to select 125 West 57th Street as the home of its new headquarters is a significant endorsement of the building, its premier location, and its world-class offerings. It reinforces the property’s status as a top-tier destination for leading businesses in New York.”

Aegon announced its plans to move to the U.S. in June. As part of the transition, Will Fuller, the firm’s current CEO of Aegon Americas, will be appointed as the company’s new president and chief operating officer of Aegon, effective Jan. 1, 2027.

Following its move, Aegon will join several other tenants in its new Midtown building, including investment management firms Anchorage Capital Advisors, Eldridge Industries, Jadian Capital and Kingdon Capital Management, as well as health care network AdaptHealth.

“We are delighted to welcome Aegon to 125 West 57th Street,” Eric Poretsky, senior managing director at Cain, said in a statement. “Securing a tenant of Aegon’s caliber is a significant milestone for the building and further validates its position as one of the Plaza District’s premier office destinations. This lease builds on the exceptional leasing momentum we have achieved over the past several months and demonstrates the continued demand from high-quality tenants for newly delivered, best-in-class office space.”
