Urgent care chain Summit CityMD will open a new two-level location in Manhattan that will offer more specializations than its typical outposts, Commercial Observer has learned.

Summit Health, the parent company of Summit CityMD that formed after Summit Medical Group merged with CityMD, signed a 15-year lease for 18,400 square feet at 18 West 18th Street near Union Square, a source with knowledge of the deal said. Summit CityMD will fill the entire block-through retail space in the 11-story property between Avenue of the Americas and Fifth Avenue.

The location, which will offer specialized care in addition to urgent care services, will be the first co-branded location in New York since the 2019 merger, the source said. It is scheduled to open in 2021.

There are now more than 120 CityMD locations in the New York area, with close to 30 locations in Manhattan, more than 50 in the boroughs, and 30 on Long Island, according to the CityMD website.

Children’s bookstore Books of Wonder formerly occupied some of the space at 18 West 18th, but moved one block south to 42 West 17th Street last year, Publishers Weekly reported.

In 2018, WeWork took the entire office portion of the building, signing a lease for 177,000 square feet, CO reported at the time.

Benjamin Birnbaum of Newmark represented the tenant in the transaction. Mike O’Neill, Jason Greenstone and Taylor Reynolds of Cushman & Wakefield handled it for the landlord, 17-18 Management Company LLC. The property has been independently owned by the Schaffer family since at least the 1960s.

A C&W spokesperson declined to comment.
