Get to Know the Broker: Matt Ellingson of Sotheby’s International Realty

Napa, Calif.-based residential broker Matt Ellingson is starting to head for the summit of what he describes as his “career Everest.” 

Ellingson is the senior sales director at Sotheby’s International Realty for its Stanly Ranch Residences Auberge Collection, a five-star luxury residential community spanning over 712 acres.

Ellingson brings over two decades of luxury real estate experience to Stanly Ranch Residences. The available residential properties in Napa’s Vintners Court range in price from $2.9 million to $6.2 million, and offer prospective buyers a choice of villa residences or vineyard residences. And the community amenities — pools, spas, and exceptional dining experiences — are to die for!   

But Ellingson doesn’t just sell luxury properties in Napa. He also represents stunning properties in Malibu, Las Vegas, San Francisco and San Diego. 

Commercial Observer caught up with Ellingson over the summer for a series called “Get to Know the Broker,” where we connect with residential brokers to learn more about what makes them tick.

This conversation has been edited for length and clarity. 

Commercial Observer: What has been the biggest deal of your career?

Matt Ellingson: I represented the buyer in the purchase of a $10 million Italian-inspired estate in Napa County.

What is your career Everest?

The upcoming Stanly Ranch project. It is so close to my roots and I have the opportunity to join its sales team.

Who has had the biggest influence on your career?

My father. He was a successful business owner in his own right and my biggest influence.

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I played guitar in a rock band in my early 20s!

What’s Your go-to takeout order?

Pizza.  I don’t judge; I’ll try it all.

What TV show are you currently binging? 

“Silo” on Apple TV!

What is your silliest pet peeve?

When people complain about problems without thinking of solutions.

What’s on your Spotify playlist? 

Hairband metal from the 1980s!

What’s your most entertaining deal story?

There was this husband and wife couple who had seen a famous couple post on their Instagram from Stanly Ranch. Naturally, they called and inquired about the property. They flew out privately two days later, and we went right into contract after the initial showing.
