Documentary production company McGee Media is leaving Hudson Square for Midtown South, Commercial Observer can first report.

McGee will decamp from 345 Hudson Square for a space at 9 East 37th Street, between Fifth and Madison Avenues in October, according to landlord broker ABS Partners. The firm signed a five-year, 5,132-square-foot lease for the entire ninth floor of the 12-story office building. Asking rent in the deal was $49 per square foot.

The company, which was founded by award-winning filmmaker Dyllan McGee, is behind films including “Finding Your Roots” and “Option B.”

ABS Partners’ Ron Zimmerman, Ian Weiss and Andrew Udis represented the owner, 9 East 37th Street Associates

“McGee Media is a great fit for the building and the area, which boasts a range of other growing media companies,” Zimmerman said in prepared remarks.

Savills Studley’s Stephan Steiner handled the deal on behalf of the tenant. Steiner didn’t immediately return a request for comment via a spokeswoman.
