Mayor Taps Business Commissioner to Run EDC

Mayor Bill de Blasio today announced he was replacing New York City Economic Development Corporation President Kyle Kimball—who left the position earlier this year after being one of the few Bloomberg administration officials to survive the regime change—with Small Business Services Commissioner Maria Torres-Springer.

Ms. Torres-Springer, a former executive vice president and chief of staff at NYCEDC, will be the first woman to lead the semi-private organization, which facilitates development through loans, subsidies and technical assistance. Mr. Kimball revealed in March he would leave the EDC for other opportunities, and last week he was named a vice president at Consolidated Edison. The entity has been run on an interim basis by Kim Vaccari, the chief financial officer of EDC, since Mr. Kimball left his post on June 1, as Commercial Observer previously reported. Todd Korren Joins EVO as Principal and COO

Todd Korren has joined EVO Real Estate Group as a principal and chief operating officer, Commercial Observer has learned.

Mr. Korren comes from Massey Knakal Realty Services (which has since been purchased by Cushman & Wakefield), where he served as executive managing director. In this capacity, Mr. Korren oversaw the day-to-day operations of the 57-person sales team and the tri-state area’s retail leasing division. Robert Rosenberg and Alyson Schmier Join EVO Real Estate Group

Most recently an associate in commercial real estate at the law firm Abrams Garfinkel Margolis Bergson, LLP, Mr. Rosenberg – a licensed real estate broker and attorney – will focus on commercial brokerage and due diligence for investments at EVO. MaryAnne Gilmartin, president and CEO of Forest City Ratner Companies, and tech leader MakerBot CEO Bre Pettis will serve as the new co-chairs of the board of directors of the nonprofit Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.
