Mr. Chang’s McSam Hotel Group could start construction on the 18-story lodgings in Midtown West as soon as six months from now after filing plans with the city last week.

“I made a promise that before I retire that I would [omit] make sure everybody owns part of a hotel,” Mr. Chang told The Real Deal, referring to Dun Zhang and other partners at the firm.

Mr. Zhang filed plans with the Department of Buildings last week to demolish the current four-story, 9,500-square-foot warehouse at the site after the Great Neck-based firm scooped the property for $7.2 million from Kozani Properties in October.

Mr. Chang, who has stated his intentions to retire this year, also has plans in the works to build a 594-room hotel atop a parking garage at 346-354 West 40th Street.
