Adam Griff, formerly a strategy director at architecture and design firm Gensler, has joined JLL as a managing director in its nonprofit, education and government practice, Commercial Observer has learned.

Griff has more than 20 years of experience within the architecture, master planning and strategic planning spaces. In his new role at JLL, he will be based in New York and work alongside David Carlos, the head of the nonprofit practice for the tri-state area. Griff will advise educational institutions and other “mission-driven organizations” on real estate and institutional strategies, JLL said.

“There is a major restructuring happening in higher education forcing institutions to rethink how their campuses support their academic missions and financial sustainability,” Carlos said in a statement. “Adam’s experience at the intersection of real estate, design and institutional strategy brings a valuable perspective to our team and strengthens our ability to help clients navigate these increasingly complex decisions.”

While at Gensler, Griff was responsible for advising organizations on strategy transformations, as well as how to optimize their physical environments and strengthen organizational performance. Gensler did not immediately respond to CO’s request for comment.

At JLL, Griff will work mainly with educational institutions to organize their real estate strategies, according to the firm.

“Colleges and universities can no longer think about their campuses independently of their capital, real estate and broader institutional strategies,” Griff said in a statement. “I’m excited to join David and the JLL team to help institutions identify new opportunities, maximize the value of their real estate assets and position themselves for long-term success.”
