Wanting to get a piece of South Florida’s construction boom, Philadelphia-based Tester Construction Group is setting up shop in the Sunshine State, the company announced.

The general contractor has signed a lease for 1,000 square feet at Fountain Square, an office building located between 64 and 98 NE 5th Avenue in Delray Beach, Fla., a town just south of West Palm Beach.

Allen Parets will lead operations of the offshoot called TCG Florida. The executive’s resume includes stints working at Turner Construction in New York City and, most recently, at Florida-based general contractor Brodson Construction, serving as vice president.

Since its founding in 2016, Tester Construction says it has completed more than $50 million in projects. It expects to complete more than $70 million in 2021. The company specializes in commercial, multifamily, mixed-use and interior projects.

In Florida, the company is heading the construction of Palm Trail Estates, Stamm Development Group’s townhome community in Delray Beach. It’s also building a store for the luxury swimwear brand Orlebar Brown in the swanky Royal Poinciana Plaza shopping mall in Palm Beach.

Demand for South Florida real estate has surged during the pandemic as companies open offices and Northerners relocate. In Miami alone, the construction market volume increased by 7 percent, totaling $21 billion in 2020, according to data compiled by construction management Cumming Corporation. Residential construction saw the largest hike, increasing by 15.5 percent. This year, the Miami market as a whole is expected to grow by 4.6 percent.

“Construction is clearly showing no signs of slowing down in the region,” Parets said in prepared remarks. “This growth presents a unique opportunity for TCG.”

Update: This story has been updated to reflect that Palm Trail Estates is being developed by Stamm Development Group, not Azure, as previously stated.
