Celebrity chef Matthew Kenney plans to open a new plant-based eatery on the ground floor of a NoMad office tower, brokers on the deal announced.

Matthew Kenney Cuisine signed a 10-year lease for 7,900 square feet at the under-construction 1245 Broadway for his new unnamed restaurant, according to CBRE (CBRE), which brokered the deal for both sides.

A spokesperson for CBRE declined to provide the asking rent in the deal.

The Los Angeles-based Kenney owns dozens of vegan restaurants around the world, including Double Zero in Brooklyn and Sestina in the East Village, and has written cookbooks on plant-based cuisine. He plans to open his new NoMad spot by early 2022, according to CBRE.

Anthony Stanford and Henry Rossignol of CBRE represented both the tenant and landlords, GDSNY and Klövern, in the deal.

“We are extremely excited to see renowned chef Matthew Kenney commit to this new, state-of-the-art development, which is being brought to life by GDSNY,” Stanford said in a statement. “This eatery will be an incredible boost to the NoMad neighborhood, offering both fine dining in a formal setting and a brasserie-style menu in a casual space.”

The 23-story 1245 Broadway, at the corner of Broadway and West 31st Street, recently topped out and will have 200,000 square feet of office space. Asking rents range from $120 per square foot in the base to $150 per square foot on the top floors, as Commercial Observer previously reported.
