reprintsCalifornia-based Pokéworks is bringing seven locations to the D.C. region, according to an announcement from the company.
The first D.C. location is slated to open near Thomas Circle at 1110 Vermont Avenue NW in September, according to a press release. A Pokéworks spokeswoman told Commercial Observer that the company is looking in North Bethesda, Md. for a second location. No other areas were confirmed.
Pokéworks calls itself the “pioneers who introduced the world to the poke burrito,” with a niche for serving Hawaiian-inspired poké bowls, burritos and salads “in a convenient and responsible way.”
“Washington, D.C. is an ideal market to develop the Pokéworks concept in due to its strong demographics and urban setting, which represents vital elements key to our brand,” said Kevin Hsu, a co-founder of Pokéworks, in a prepared statement. “We are excited to be able to bring the first Pokéworks location to the area and are confident it will become a go-to spot for the community to enjoy healthy and delicious alternatives, while also feeling great about what they’re eating.”
Pokéworks was founded in 2015 in Irvine, Calif.—it’s first location is in Manhattan, NY. The D.C. region’s launch is part of the company’s recent growth that includes more than 100 development deals, per the release.
There are currently 12 company-owned Pokéworks locations across the country and eight franchised shops. The company is seeking more franchise partners for an initial fee of $35,000 with the total investment ranging from $250,000 to $850,000 per store.
