reprintsBjörn Holm, a sous chef and the head of catering at Dean & Deluca’s Soho flagship, is opening a sandwich and bakeshop in the Union Square area, Commercial Observer has learned.
Fat Cat Kitchen, serving fresh grab-and-go food prepared by the European-born and trained chef, will operate out of 600 square feet at 223 East 14th Street between Second and Third Avenues. The lease is for 10 years with a five-year option, according to Suzuki Capital’s Colby Swartz, who brokered the deal for the tenant along with colleauges Sebastien Lindenmayer, Dino Mouzakitis and Thomas Li. The asking rent was $8,500 per month, Swartz said.
Fat Cat Kitchen is expected to be open on the ground floor of the five-story, 18-unit residential building by Feb. 1, 2017.
“Fat Cat Kitchen will offer the convenience of selling creative sandwiches, fresh salads, quiche, soups and home-style bakery items, plus a full coffee program in a warm, inviting shop with a knowledgeable, friendly staff and a frequently changing menu, offering consistency and variety that similar shops lack,” Swartz emailed.
Flatiron Real Estate Advisors’ Paul Ramirez represented the owner, Ishak Zaghdoun’s 223 E. 14 St. LLC. Ramirez didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
