“The leasing velocity we’re seeing at Throggs Neck Shopping Center demonstrates the robust demand for quality retail space in the Bronx,” said Joseph Simone, president of Simone Development, in a prepared statement. “National tenants, as well as the best local retailers, have been eager to open their doors here, and we’re rapidly filling the remaining space.”

The development, a joint venture between Simone Development, Aaron Malinsky and Paul Slayton, has signed several new deals for the retail center within the past few months. Most recently, Applebee‘s signed for a 6,640-square-foot restaurant and TJ Maxx signed as a 28,417-square-foot junior anchor that spans two floors.

Target will continue to anchor the retail center with their 165,000-square-foot semi-underground store. The retail center takes advantage of its geographical incline with Target being only exposed on the lower side of the lot. The top of Target will act as a 900 car parking lot with over 100,000 square feet of additional retail on level with the higher side of the lot.

Miles Mahony of Ripco Real Estate represented both parties in the transaction and will continue leasing out the remaining 70,000 square feet available in the center.

Throggs Neck Shopping Center is slated for completion in early 2014.
