Marlee Teplitzky, 29
Vice president at CBRE
If not for one great teacher, Marlee Teplitzky would’ve been in banking.
The Connecticut native was studying finance at Emory University’s business school — and interning twice at TD Bank — when she took a real estate finance class her senior year. The professor was terrific and well connected, and that was that.
“He actually introduced me to the industry and actually got me in touch with CBRE,” Teplitzky said.
She has been in the brokerage services giant’s consulting practice since graduation in 2015, and has been promoted three times, most recently to vice president in April 2021. Teplizky has been involved in 139 deals totaling 5.8 million square feet in the past five years via planning and strategizing ahead of time for clients. These are often multimonth or multiyear analyses with many moving parts and demands.
Case in point: Teplitzky was involved in a consolidation for the New York Blood Center, which wanted to bring five New York-area locations under one roof. That demanded proximity to interstate highways
and certain physical specifications that included high ceilings and proper storage space. Teplitzky helped find that roof at a former Avon Products office on Midland Avenue in Westchester County’s Rye. The blood center plans to occupy the space fully by 2025.
Teplitzky also worked on D.E. Shaw’s North American headquarters deal at the new 2 Manhattan West. The investment management giant wanted to tick a bunch of boxes for its new hub, including the best amenities and views — and wanted it, of course, to make financial sense. Enter Teplitzky and team. D.E Shaw signed a deal in September for 283,000 square feet at the far West Side skyscraper. Teplitzky continues to manage D.E. Shaw’s national real estate portfolio.
And she keeps in touch with that professor from Emory’s Goizueta Business School, checking in once a year even though he’s now retired. Thank a teacher, folks. —T.A.
