It has been a busy 2026 for Compass so far, as the tech-forward real estate brokerage closed a $1.6 billion acquisition of Anywhere Real Estate. That brought that firm and legacy companies Coldwell Banker and Century 21 under the Compass umbrella, where they can huddle with the Corcoran Group, Christie’s International and Sotheby’s International, among others.

The deal closed Jan. 9 — a shock, as it was expected that the merger would close in the latter half of 2026.

“What makes this moment unique is not a transaction that combines two companies — it’s that the industry’s most respected brands and professionals are coming together on a single, modern technology platform that will help them save time, grow their business, and better serve their clients,” CEO Robert Reffkin said in a statement at the time.

The date of the deal resulted in antitrust concerns that Compass seems to have eluded. Still, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and U.S. Rep. Becca Balint pushed then-Attorney General Pam Bondi to determine if there was any “political favoritism at the Department of Justice” following the agency’s review of the merger.

“Allowing this merger will make it easier for these firms to exert greater control over the real estate market, limit consumer access and choice, and ultimately exacerbate the housing crisis that has put homeownership out of reach for millions of Americans,” the lawmakers wrote in their brief.

With the merger in the bag and the alleged antitrust bullet dodged, Compass posted strong second-quarter financial results. Revenue hit $4.31 billion, more than twice as high as the $2.06 billion recorded in the second quarter 2025. Net income for the quarter was $92 million compared to net income of $39 million for the same period last year.

“Our integration with Anywhere is progressing well, and we have now actioned our entire year one net-cost synergy target of $300 million five months ahead of plan,” Reffkin said in the earnings report.

See that? Earlier than expected again.
