Since its founding in 2009, Camber Creek has proved to be one of the most successful real estate tech-focused venture capital firms.

Its success has been built on a number of factors, but one reigns supreme: finding — and investing in — particularly talented founders.

“When you look at our portfolio, a number of things stand out,” said Jeffrey Berman. “Most prominently, the deals that we are in, which are unique to us within the built world ecosystem — specifically Flex, Serhant and Bilt Rewards. We invest large amounts of money in high-conviction companies behind generational founders.”

The quality of a proptech founder is the most “practical” way to invest, Berman, who helms the VC with cousin Casey Berman and Jake Fingert, said.

“If you go down our list of portfolio companies and you meet the founders, you really get a sense of the type of people that we invest in,” he said. “At the end of the day, for all the wonderful AI innovation that there is in our industry and others, this is a people-centric business for us. We invest behind exemplary people.”

Last year, Bilt, a payment and rewards platform within the housing sector that Camber Creek, along with others, invested in, was valued at $10.75 billion, zooming up from the $3.1 billion the company was valued at in early 2024. Indeed, growth for its portfolio companies is what Camber Creek desires most going forward.

“This might be cliched, but I would say the continued growth of our companies,” Berman said of the VC’s plans. “There are a lot of companies that sit below the, let’s call it, the media threshold. They’re not getting constant attention, but these companies are providing some product, software or service that the real estate industry finds value in. And they are continuing to grow.”
