One thing New York City does not lack is a place to find great Chinese food, and New Yorkers are about to get another spot to add to their lists.
Nong Geng Ji, one of China’s most popular Hunan cuisine brands, has inked a 9,900-square-foot retail lease at 365 West 46th Street in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood along the famed Restaurant Row, according to tenant broker Meridian Capital Group. The three-level space will be the brand’s flagship New York City location.
The length of the lease was not disclosed, but the asking rent is $55,000 per month, according to Meridian. James Famularo and Kyle Fink of Meridian represented the tenant, while Milly Cheung and Jordan Cohen from Lee & Associates NYC represented the landlord, Lucky 11 Group.
“Restaurant Row is one of the most competitive dining corridors in Manhattan, and a three-level space of this size very rarely becomes available there,” Fink said in a statement. “Nong Geng Ji was looking for a location that could support the volume of a flagship while putting the brand in front of the Theater District audience every night.”
Nong Geng Ji will replace sushi restaurant Sushi Seki in the space.
Nong Geng Ji was founded in 2017 and has grown across China and around the world. The restaurant’s first New York City location — and its first U.S. location — opened earlier this year at 135-15 37th Avenue in Flushing, Queens.
“The landlord chose this brand because it is well known in China, and the brand plans to add local flavors to its famous dishes to meet local needs,” Lee’s Cheung told Commercial Observer. “Our location is close to Times Square and the Theatre District. We want to bring authentic Chinese flavor to people not only in New York but from everywhere.”
Located between Eighth and Ninth avenues, 365 West 46th Street is a four-story mixed-use property.
