Retail operator Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) has elevated a longtime executive to the role of chief operating officer for its U.S. business.

URW promoted Geoff Mason from vice president of asset management and development to COO after a series of successful development launches in Chicago, New Jersey and Southern California, according to the mall giant.

Mason will be stepping into the shoes of Dominic Lowe, who will leave the company after 18 years, according to Westfield.

“Geoff is an exceptional leader who brings a deep understanding of our U.S. portfolio, strong relationships across the organization and a clear vision for the future of our centers,” URW CEO Vincent Rouget said in a statement.

Mason worked for URW from 2007 to 2016 before spending two and a half years at Macerich. He then returned to URW as senior vice president of operating management in 2018, according to Mason’s LinkedIn profile.

“Over the past eight years, I have seen firsthand the strength of URW’s U.S. portfolio and the Westfield brand,” Mason said in a statement, adding that he plans to improve assets to serve as flagship locations for retailers.

Mason assumed the role of COO on Sept. 1, according to Westfield. The appointment seems to strengthen the mall operator’s resolve to remain in the U.S. market despite plans announced in 2022 to focus on European assets.
