reprintsHow did you get into the industry?
Cynthia Wasserberger: Upon receiving my master’s degree in real estate from New York University and connections through their specialty program, I was able to get a position in real estate brokerage, specific to New York City, as a result.
What advice do you have for women looking to get into the industry?
I would advise women to confirm that a position involves working with a team and with a specific mentor that can help guide your career. Get involved with a team approach as opposed to a solo individual mentality.
What are the two things that you’d like the CRE industry to know about you?
Throughout my career, I’ve taken special effort to hire, recruit, promote, and mentor young women and people on my team. This year, I will celebrate my 25th anniversary in the brokerage industry.
What are the biggest transformations that you have seen in the past year?
As tenants are returning to work, there is an increasing desire for flexibility when it comes to leases. There is also a tremendous flight to higher-quality buildings and spaces as employers try to encourage employees to return to the office.
What lessons have you learned from leading during the pandemic and how will you apply them in a post-pandemic world?
Technology can’t replace in-person collaboration and connection. The post-pandemic result is there will be a balance of both, not all or nothing.
