Chick-fil-A plans to open an outpost at 1214 18th Street NW, south of Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C., according to a Washington Business Journal report.

While a Chick-fil-A spokeswoman told Commercial Observer that the fast-food restaurant “hopes to serve the Dupont community” but could not confirm any locations at this time, WBJ reported that the company signed a 15-year lease with Jefferson LP, an affiliate of Douglas Development.

Douglas senior vice president Matthew Jemal, who did not return CO’s request for comment, told WBJ that Chick-fil-A will take up 5,298 square feet between the ground floor and the basement. It’s unclear if brokers were involved in the deal.

The space was formerly occupied by MIA Lounge and Public Bar operates out of the second and third floors of the building

The lease restricts the landlord from leasing space in nearby properties to any eateries that sells or serves chicken “as a principal menu item” unless they are full-service, sit down restaurants, according to the publication.

This will be the chicken franchise’s ninth location in the D.C. region.
