Thor Equities has promoted Melissa Gliatta to chief operating officer for the North America operations from executive vice president.

Ms.  Gliatta has worked with Thor founder Joseph Sitt for more than 20 years, and will now coordinate leasing, management and development for the commercial landlord, according to a company press release. Working as Mr. Sitt’s right-hand woman, she’ll also focus on growing the company’s holdings in the United States and Canada.

“Melissa has been an integral part of our company for over two decades,” Mr. Sitt, the company’s chief executive officer, said in prepared remarks. “Her strong leadership and operational skills have enabled us to attract a team of dedicated and experienced professionals, and help grow Thor into a full-service firm with offices throughout the United States, Europe and Latin America.”

While the lion’s share of Thor’s portfolio is in New York City—in neighborhoods such as Soho and the Flatiron District as well as several areas in Brooklyn—the landlord also has holdings in Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles and one property in Montreal.

Ms. Gliatta, 49, started at Thor in 1995 doing operations and expansion for Ashley Stewart, the clothing retailer that Mr. Sitt founded four years earlier. She joined Thor in 2003 as a vice president to manage properties for the company, according to Thor, and was promoted to executive vice president in 2010.
