VentureBeat is reporting that Facebook is eyeing a major expansion on Madison Avenue.
Anonymous real estate sources say the social network is taking two floors at 335 Madison Avenue and could expand to as much as 150,000 square feet. The move makes sense. After an early stumble with advertisers, Facebook has emerged in the last year as a favorite new format for blue chip brands. So far most of this work has been handled by a small in-house team, but Facebook’s business could easily accommodate the 600-strong salesforce this space would fit.
The move could also be interpreted as a counter to Google’s massive exspansion, as the two tech giants increasingly compete for ad dollars.
If Facebook is coming to New York, it’s probably a few weeks off: their Careers page only has 15 listings for New York. That’d be a lot of empty desks if these rumors are true.
