In anticipation of some formidable newcomers to Brooklyn’s clothing-store market, Conway will consolidate its reign over Fulton Street with a spiffy new flagship store.
The store’s new 36,000-square-foot location at 427 Fulton Street puts Conway at the front of an anticipated flurry of retail development in the area. H&M and Aeropostale are both expected to open stores in the next year, and several major department stores are also eying the space.
Conway “had the foresight to take this spot,” said Zachary Mishaan, of Winick Realty, who represented both the tenant and the landlord. Conway will lease the space from ABC Discount, which previously occupied the space.
Conway has been at 503 Fulton for 20 years, making it something of a downtown Brooklyn institution. But its new home will be completely renovated and will include an all-glass exterior.
The store felt that the upgrades to Fulton Street “really strengthened the area at the intersection of Jay Street and created an opportunity to reinforce their presence in the neighborhood,” said Mr. Mishaan.
The 15-year deal is valued at more than $30 million, according to a Winick spokeswoman.
