There was a time not long ago when the concept of taking a building’s “digital connectivity temperature” was a cure looking for a disease. Then along came WiredScore, which gives homes and offices a comprehensive and certified smart technology rating.

Starting a decade ago, Arie Barendrecht built a global proptech company in WiredScore that has expanded its reach to more than 36 markets, most recently in Thailand, where it launched in March 2023. The move highlighted WiredScore’s continued growth in an otherwise wobbly proptech marketplace. 

To date in 2023, 100 buildings in 15 countries have achieved SmartScore certification, with another 300 currently undergoing review. The 400 buildings total approximately 110 million square feet.

Over the last two and a half years, WiredScore has partnered with a number of leading landlords, construction firms and developers — including Hines, Lendlease, Great Portland Estates, Greystar, AXA IM and British Land — to certify buildings around the world.

Among its notable certified buildings are Henderson’s The Henderson in Hong Kong (Platinum), Brookfield Properties’ ICD Brookfield Place in Dubai (Platinum), Skanska’s 17xM in Washington, D.C., (Gold) and GPE’s The Hickman in London (Platinum).

In growing its clients across many geographic markets, WiredScore has established itself as arguably the global standard for digital connectivity and smart technology, while simultaneously educating and training its growing network of leading real estate partners, said Barendrecht.

“WiredScore has a deep understanding of the changing nuances of the real estate sector brought about by macro global trends,” Barendrecht said. “As such, it has updated its scorecards to reflect the developing standards, needs and expectations of the built environment.”
