Thomas (T.J.) Sullivan, 30
Director of Equity, Debt and Structured Finance at Cushman & Wakefield
T.J. Sullivan attended Georgetown University with the initial goal of pursuing a career in investment banking until an internship at CBRE the summer before his senior year set him on a commercial real estate path.
“At the time, there was only one real estate finance class, which I took in the fall of my senior year, after a real estate internship, and it kind of clicked that I could apply general finance concepts to real estate,” said Sullivan, whose father was a leasing broker at CBRE for 35 years. “It was a pretty natural fit, but it took me until my senior year of college to realize.”
Sullivan, who in June was promoted to director from associate director at Cushman & Wakefield, spearheads underwriting and also leads efforts to gain new loan business. During the pandemic, he has focused primarily on transactions for the New York region with an average deal size of around $40 million. He also helped obtain $141.1 million of construction financing to build an industrial warehouse for Amazon in Delaware this year.
“It’s a great culture that we have over here, and it’s allowed me to grow in the debt business extremely well and quickly,” Sullivan said. “It’s an awesome team that I’m proud to be on.”
Prior to arriving at Cushman & Wakefield in early 2018, Sullivan spent nearly four years at RXR Realty as an associate in its asset management group. His job at RXR started shortly after graduating Georgetown in 2014 with a bachelor’s in business administration with a dual major in finance and management.—A.C.
