Founder and CEO at WiredScore
WiredScore bills itself as the global gold standard for digital connectivity in buildings. Given the company’s growth since its 2013 founding — and the ubiquity of WiredScore’s certifications when it comes to connectivity — there is ample evidence to support that claim.
Driving force Arie Barendrecht describes WiredScore’s mission as making buildings smarter and better connected by operating the world’s leading certifications for technology in buildings.
“WiredScore allows developers and landlords to benchmark and improve the resilience, setup, service and future readiness of the digital connectivity in office and residential buildings,” said Barendrecht in an email. “Our SmartScore product helps developers and landlords create and market smart buildings that deliver exceptional user experiences, drive operational effectiveness, meet high standards of sustainability, and are resilient in an ever-changing world.”
In 2024, WiredScore saw its global footprint grow to more than 1,000 landlords who use its certification, with over 800 million square feet of real estate certified. Those figures are quite the jump from 2023, when 100 buildings in 15 countries had achieved WiredScore’s SmartScore certification, with another 300 undergoing review. The 400 buildings totaled approximately 110 million square feet.
WiredScore has partnered with a number of leading landlords, construction firms and developers — including Hines, Lendlease, Great Portland Estates, Greystar, AXA IM and British Land — to certify buildings. Among the firm’s newest certification clients are Water Street Tampa by Strategic Property Partners; Brent Cross in London by Related Argent; and Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park.
In May, the company launched in India with landlords such as Brookfield, Hines, DNR, Prestige Group and House of Hiranandani, while also beginning to certify homes in the Middle East. In November, the company will launch in the Philippines.
Next year, WiredScore plans to grow its presence further in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region, two of its fastest-growing markets, said Barendrecht. In addition, 2025 will see WiredScore, which is currently applicable to offices and multifamily buildings, expand the number of asset classes that can achieve the company’s certification.
