Maxim Capital Group’s reputation in the industry was one of the key factors that drew Daniella Marca to the firm. “I had known Adam [Glick] and Brian [Steiner] for years, and people just love working with them. Maxim has a large number of repeat borrowers, which is not so common in the bridge space, and that really says a lot.”

Marca may call New York City home today, but she grew up on the West Coast. A first-generation college graduate in her family, Marca’s first job out of college was at Torrey Pines Bank in San Diego. She rotated through different departments at the bank, but it was real estate that caught her interest.

From there, she moved to Axos Bank in the La Jolla area of San Diego. As part of the bridge lending specialty group, she started working on New York-based projects and was soon smitten with the Big Apple. “I fell in love with the city and the environment and I knew I wanted to make New York home,” she said.

And, make it home she did. Marca took a position at Manhattan-based Castellan Capital in 2017, before joining Maxim in 2021. The move to the East Coast also marked a pivot from working in the traditional, more heavily regulated banking side of the industry to the private debt side. “It’s fun and you’re able to make decisions a lot quicker,” she said. “Things are definitely more fast-paced, but you see a wider variety of deal flow.”

At Maxim, some of that deal flow includes an $18 million loan for Copperline Partners’ purchase of the Edgewater House Apartments in Palm Beach, Fla.

Marca’s keeping busy with the sourcing of deals and networking for new ones. And, just as the reputation of Maxim drew her to the firm, at a time when speed and certainty of execution is king, she takes pride in her own reputation today.

“When I’m speaking to a mortgage broker and they say, ‘We have three term sheets on the table from various lenders, but I know I can tell my borrower that Daniella is definitely going to get this closed and I feel confident with her,’” to me, that’s the biggest compliment and recommendation that someone can give me — knowing that we’re going to do what we say we’re going to do, and that we’re going to do it on time.”—C.C.
