BGO is changing its name yet again.

The global real estate investment management and services firm merged with Bentall Kennedy in 2019 to become BentallGreenOak. It then truncated that name to BGO in 2024. Now, it’s switching gears back to GreenOak as part of another massive rebranding effort.

Sun Life Financial, the firm’s parent company, announced Monday that its $326 billion institutional asset management platform, SLC Management, will rebrand under that single GreenOak global name. The move brings together the former BGO and its sister firms Crescent Capital, InfraRed Capital Partners, SLC Fixed Income and Advisors Asset Management.

The rebranding will be completed within the next year.

“The launch of GreenOak reflects the evolution of our business and how we will operate as one integrated platform,” Sonny Kalsi, president and CEO of GreenOak, said in a statement. “While our name may be changing, our focus remains the same: generating strong investment outcomes, delivering exceptional client service, and empowering our people to do their best work.”

Sun Life Financial, a Toronto-based international financial services organization with more than $1.6 trillion in assets under management, acquired GreenOak Real Estate in 2018 prior to the 2019 merger with BentallGreenOak to form (eventually) BGO.

Its return to the name GreenOak “builds on that history while extending the name beyond its real estate origins,” Sun Life Financial said in its Monday announcement.

The then-BGO has been busy on the acquisition front recently.

Last month, the firm bought a 100 percent leased, 11-property portfolio of surgery centers across the U.S. from Flagship Healthcare Properties and AEW Capital Management. The purchase price was not disclosed, but the portfolio spans 223,000 square feet across nine markets.

In March, BGO also acquired Bell Partners, a $10 billion vertically integrated property management and development firm, for $350 million. That deal was expected to close in the third quarter of this year.
