Jeevan Kalanithi believes that visual intelligence, not paperwork, is what builders need to move faster.

In 2026, spatial artificial intelligence company OpenSpace grew beyond 360-degree reality capture. The platform brings together data from cameras, smartphones, drones, laser scanners, building information models, schedules and more. The synergy is designed to provide teams a clearer picture of what’s happening on-site to make faster and better decisions.

“Construction doesn’t need another disconnected tool or system that asks teams to manually input information into a form,” Kalanithi said at OpenSpace’s Waypoint conference in September 2026. “The next phase of the industry will be defined by platforms that understand the physical world and make that intelligence available wherever teams already work. OpenSpace is powering a new way of reality-based work, with an open platform that interoperates with the systems and technologies that work best for our customers’ businesses.”

Working with construction and development clients such as Skanska, Suffolk, Tishman Speyer and Vinci, OpenSpace has analyzed imagery from more than 110,000 construction projects covering over 77 billion square feet, along with more than 500 million human-added labels and descriptions. That real-world context is helping OpenSpace build AI that understands more than project documents — it understands what’s physically happening on site.

This year, OpenSpace announced innovations that included products AI Autolocation 2.0 with live location, Site Mode, and Walk and Talk — among other things, making it easier to get work done from a smartphone.

OpenSpace also added progress-tracking capabilities with quantity tracking, predictive analytics and the OpenSpace Track API, helping teams verify installed work, spot schedule risk earlier, and put their progress data to work across their business. That includes workflows such as subcontractor payments.

The OpenSpace team also unveiled the OpenSpace Agent Ecosystem, an open, interoperable platform designed to give AI agents access to visual and spatial jobsite context.
