Taxes may not be appealing, but Ownwell has found that homeowners and small- to medium-size businesses find tech-enabled tax appeals quite rewarding.

Founded in 2020, Ownwell addresses a subject most of us never think about: appealing a property tax bill. The result has been a growing startup that is branching out to provide an insurance product that helps people find the right coverage for their property.

“We want to help as many people understand their property taxes and reduce their expenses as possible,” said CEO Colton Pace. “Over the last several months, we’ve executed on that plan, trying to raise awareness, educate the public and help as many people as we can. We crossed 1 million properties on the platform, which is exciting for us, and we want to keep that going.”

In February 2026, Ownwell announced a $50 million Series B raise to support continued product development and the launch of its national property tax appeal offering. The company also announced the launch of its National Appeals Packet, an AIpowered, readytofile appeal tool that it said gives homeowners across the U.S. access to the tax information and expertise used by professional appeals teams — for free.

Austin-based Ownwell said it has facilitated tax appeals that resulted in savings of more than $400 million for homeowners, while serving 200,000-plus first-time appeals customers in Texas alone.

“We do all different types of marketing, from sponsoring the San Antonio Spurs this last year to the New York Islanders, plus direct mail, social media, and building out a lot of content,” said Pace. “Education and awareness are among the hardest things we have to do. Most people just don’t know that they should review and protest their property taxes, exemptions and insurance.”
