Rachel Goldin Jinich
Head of specialty real estate finance at Wells Fargo
After 16 years at Wells Fargo, Rachel Goldin Jinich was promoted in April to lead the bank’s specialty real estate finance (SREF) business.
Jinich’s new leadership role under Kara McShane, Wells Fargo’s head of commercial real estate, involves overseeing all SREF teams, including hospitality finance, senior housing, manufactured housing and specialty capital.
“I know the SREF team really well and it’s a team that I really respect and admire,” the Washington, D.C.-based Jinich said. “It’s really exciting for me because I know where I want to take it and where there is room to grow.”
Since joining Wells Fargo in 2007, Jinich has worked across various commercial real estate groups, including real estate merchant banking, special situations, hospitality finance and specialty capital. Before her ascent in April, she worked the previous two years as a managing director leading Wells Fargo’s specialty capital group focused on financing for data centers. The group scaled under her leadership from virtually no data center exposure to over $3 billion of commitments.
In a dislocated market with uncertainty about interest rates, Jinich said communication is key regarding Wells Fargo’s multiple financing capabilities beyond just balance sheet lending. These capabilities include commercial mortgage-backed securities and agency-backed deals.
“Our team understands that we can’t control what’s happening in the broader markets, but what we can control is being there for our clients and communicating clearly with them around what can get executed and at what level,” she said. “I love the saying ‘clarity is kindness’ and I think that is very true when working with clients in a tough market. Being clear and candid about what we’re seeing is helpful, and that’s what our clients want.”
