At least one company is flying against the wave of people and businesses relocating from New York City to Florida.

Miami-based chain The Spot Barbershop inked a deal for 4,600 square feet at 332 Bowery between Bond and Great Jones streets, according to Newmark (NMRK), which brokered the deal for both sides. The space includes 2,300 square feet on the ground floor of a four-story residential building and 2,300 square feet in the basement.

A spokesperson for Newmark did not provide the terms of the deal.

The Spot Barbershop was founded in 2001 in Miami and grew to open 18 locations around the city, according to Newmark. The 332 Bowery spot will be its first location outside of Florida and will replace furniture store BURKELMAN, which closed last year.

“We started looking for space with The Spot Barbershop back in November during the height of COVID-19, as they were very bullish on expanding to the NYC market,” Newmark’s JD Cohen said in a statement. “This service-oriented tenant deciding to open up their first New York location along the Bowery further reinforces the sentiment that we’re seeing a positive shift in retail leasing as we come out of the pandemic.”

Cohen brokered the deal for the tenant along with colleague Michael Paster. Brandon Eisenman and Andrew Connolly, also of Newmark, represented landlord 332 Bowery LLC.
