reprintsA Montessori school with locations in Russia and Canada inked a deal to take the last remaining retail space in Durst Organization’s three-building complex on the Far West Side, Commercial Observer has learned.
Hopscotch Montessori School signed a 20-year lease for 6,855 square feet on the ground floor of Via 57 West, at 624 West 57th Street, between 11th and 12th Avenues, a spokesman for the landlord said. Asking rent was $95 per square foot.
“We are thrilled Hopscotch Montessori School is opening at Via 57 West,” Jonathan “Jody” Durst, president of the Durst Organization, said in a statement. “Hopscotch joins the curated list of retail tenants at the 57 West campus to offer our residential tenants and the surrounding community premier amenities.”
Hopscotch was founded in Europe with locations in Kyiv and Moscow and expanded to New York City in 2016 with a campus at 433 East 74th Street on the Upper East Side, according to its website. The school plans to open its Far West Side outpost in the summer of 2020.
The 35-story, Bjarke Ingels-designed pyramid-shaped Via 57 West residential building is part of Durst’s three-building campus of Frank 57 West at 600 West 58th Street and Helena 57 West at 601 West 57th Street. Other tenants in the complex include movie theater The Landmark, fitness chain I Love Kickboxing and Hudson Market.
Ashlea Aaron of Durst handled the deal in-house for the landlord along with Lee & Associates’ JP Sutro and Richard Kave. Versus Real Estate’s Victoria Bokk brokered it for Hopscotch. Representatives from Versus Real Estate did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
