Mortgage banking firm Phillips Realty Capital has hired Malcolm Shaw, a former director at New York-based Ladder Capital Corp., as a managing director at its Bethesda, Md., headquarters.

Shaw’s responsibilities include structuring debt and equity financing for the firm’s commercial real estate clients, according to a statement from PRC.

Prior to joining the firm, the 30-year-old spent five years at mortgage REIT Ladder Capital. As a director there, he was responsible for the origination of balance sheet and fixed-rate securitized loans, according to the statement. Ladder Capital did not return Commercial Observer’s request for comment.

“We’re thrilled to have attracted Malcolm away from Manhattan to join our team in the Washington Metropolitan Area,” David Foulk, a principal at PRC, said in prepared remarks. “He’s been immersed in the capital markets and brings fresh perspective from the investor side of the industry.”

Founded in 1933, privately-owned PRC structures debt and equity transactions, completing more than $700 million of deals in the first quarter, according to a May release. The company is headquartered in Maryland and has four offices in Virginia.

Shaw said he’s confident he can “add real value” as PRC pursues “growth opportunities in different markets,” according to prepared remarks. “I see how clients benefit from working with a firm that still operates like a family-run business,” he said.
