Cabo Wabo Cantina, the Mexican chain started by former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar, plans to open its first East Coast outpost in Times Square, landlord Thor Equities announced.

The eatery inked a 10-year lease for 8,300 square feet inside Thor’s 725 Eighth Avenue between West 45th and West 46th Streets, The Real Deal first reported. The asking rent for the space was $400 per square foot and Cabo Wabo plans to open in spring 2019, a spokesman for Thor told Commercial Observer.

Cabo Wabo is taking all five levels of the building and there were no brokers involved in the deal, the spokesman said.

The restaurant will take over the space from another celebrity-backed food chain, Mark Wahlberg’s Wahlburgers, which closed in September 2017 after it stopped paying the rent, The New York Post reported.

Cabo Wabo was started in 1990 by Hagar, a rock musician known for his inability to drive the speed limit, and has locations in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Mexico and Lake Tahoe, Calif.
