Michael Nikolis’ family has owned Bill’s Flower Market at 816 Avenue of the Americas since 1936. So who better to take us through the history of the Flower District (which spans West 28th Street between Seventh Avenue and Avenue of the Americas)?

What began as Tin Pan Alley, the home of New York City’s songwriters, saw flowers bloom when Broadway theaters started opening uptown. Now, the district has been there for over a century, experiencing a heyday in the 1980s and keeping a modest presence today.
