Sam Chandan Named Associate Dean and Clinical Professor at NYU Schack

Dr. Sam Chandan has been named new associate dean, clinical professor and Larry and Klara Silverstein Chair in real estate development and investment at the New York University School of Professional Studies Schack Institute of Real Estate, the school announced in a press release on Wednesday.

“The NYUSPS Schack Institute is unmatched in the comprehensiveness of its real estate programs,” Mr. Chandan said in the release. “Leveraging the dual advantages of our home in the world’s most vital real estate market and NYU’s global network, we are poised to expand our role in applied research and in educating the next generation of our industry’s leaders.”

Mr. Chandan, the founder and chief economist of market data and research firm Chandan Economics, will start in his role at the university in March 2016. He currently works as an adjunct associate professor of real estate at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and is a partner and the global head of strategy at Chicago-headquartered Capri Investment Group. Mr. Chandan is also a columnist for Commercial Observer.

“As a distinguished scholar and educator with deep professional and policy connections, Sam Chandan is the ideal person to lead the NYUSPS Schack Institute in engaging industry partners, conducting cutting-edge applied research, creating innovative curricula and attracting exceptional students and faculty members from around the world,” said Dennis Di Lorenzo, dean of the NYU School of Professional Studies.

Mr. Chandan holds a Ph.D. in applied economics and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Wharton, as well as master’s degrees in economics and engineering from University of Pennsylvania.
