Robert Walsh, the former Commissioner of the New York City Department of Small Business Services under former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, will join CPEX Real Estate, the Brooklyn commercial brokerage firm announced this week. As a senior managing director of the advisory services division, Mr. Walsh will devote himself to business development and strategic growth in addition to advising clients.

Mr. Walsh was a 12-year veteran of the Bloomberg administration who worked with the city’s 200,000 small businesses as commissioner of small business services, opening new Business Solution and Workforce Centers, which helped with job placement and found $200 million in capital. Previously, he was executive director of the Union Square Partnership, where he helped revitalize the neighborhood, and executive director of the NYC Urban Fellows Program under Mayor Ed Koch.

“I’ve known, worked with, and respected [CPEX Managing Partners and co-founders] Tim [King] and Brian [Leary] for a good number of years now,” he said in a press release. “I am excited about this terrific opportunity to join forces with them as part of the CPEX team. CPEX has strong leadership in Tim and Brian, an outstanding track record, deep roots in the community, and impressive partnerships with a wide array of businesses, colleges and nonprofit organizations.”
