Carter’s, the baby and childrenswear brand, will be opening a new location in Queens, The Commercial Observer has learned.
The apparel company will open a new 4,000-square-foot retail space at 40-24 College Point Boulevard, otherwise known as the Sky View Center. The Sky View Center is the borough’s largest mixed-use and multilevel shopping center, spanning over 700,000 square feet and 30,000 square feet of full-service dining space.
Carter’s, founded in 1865, has grown to one of the largest brands in the United States as the parent company of brands like OshKosh B’gosh, Child of Mine, Just One You, Genuine Kids, and Precious Firsts.
“Carter’s is a great addition to the wide array of tenants at Sky View Center,” says Michael Dana, president of onex real estate partners, owner and developer of Sky View Center. “We are focused on meeting today’s shopper demand by creating a merchandise mix in our center that offers brand names at a value oriented price. Carter’s is a great fit.”
Carter’s will join the Sky View Center’s growing list of tenants including BJ’s Wholesale Club, Marshall’s, Old Navy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Bob’s Discount Furniture, Chuck E. Cheese’s, Sky Food, and the center’s anchor tenant, Target.
“The center is 80 percent occupied,” added David Brickman, a director at Onex Partners. “We are actively negotiating multiple leases that will bring the occupancy up to 85 percent in the first half of 2013.”
Carter’s is expected to open this spring.
“This will be our second Queens store and is a good step for the company in further expanding its presence in New York City,” says Sean McHugh, vice president of investor relations at Carter’s. “Sky View Center is a shopping destination with strong, relevant retailers, solid foot traffic and a prime location.”
The deal was set for 10 years.
