Jake Salkovitz started his career in public sector consulting after graduating in 2017 from George Washington University, where he majored in finance.

He spent two years in IBM’s strategy consulting group based in New York City. Big Blue awarded Salkovitz a Service Excellence Award for his work. Salkovitz pivoted his career path from strategic consulting to the real estate industry by joining CBRE in 2019. There he focuses on underwriting and strategic analysis, including organizing guidance on loans for clients and providing feedback to them and to prospective clients.

“It was heavier on the finance side, more consistent in day-to-day client communication, networking and outreach, and all of that was more interesting to me,” he said.

In 2022, Salkovitz was involved in a $330 million structured financing for one of New Jersey’s largest office owners with a transitional office acquisition for an office tower on the Hudson River waterfront. He has also been involved in a $465 million simultaneous refinance and acquisition financing for a two-property portfolio in Long Island. Since the initial transaction two and half years ago, his team has executed $1 billion of total financings and facilitated $175 million of preferred equity investment for the client.

“There are a lot of new opportunities that we’re starting to see coming through the cracks,” Salkovitz said. “I try to think about not just the numbers but how what we do really impacts our client and their business.”

Outside of the office, Salkovitz pursues his passions for movies, sports and skiing. He’s also engaged. —E.F.
