Associate at Colliers
A college internship proved influential in charting Eric Toddy’s path to commercial real estate finance.
Just before his senior year at Fordham University, Toddy gained experience at Greysteel, a small brokerage firm, learning the ins and outs of how commercial real estate transactions are executed.
“I was in their Philadelphia office as a Philadelphia native doing lower-middle-market investment sales, supporting their efforts across the Philadelphia metro area,” Toddy said. “That really is what set me off on a commercial real estate career.”
Prior to that career-changing internship, Toddy began his college journey at Fordham as a civil engineering major before pivoting to architecture and later, in his junior year, to economics with a finance major. His short time as an architecture student molded his interest in real estate from examining the design of various buildings he toured.
Toddy joined Colliers as a New York capital markets analyst in November 2020 as one of the first hires of Peter Nicoletti when he became head of the group after leaving JLL. The average deal size they work on is in the $100 million ballpark, and Toddy says he enjoys the variety of transactions nationally that he gets to work on across the capital stack, from investment sales to mortgage banking .
“One day you’re working on a walk-up apartment building in Upper Manhattan, and next day you’re working on an industrial construction loan in Los Angeles,” he said. “That’s something that I really love about the role.”
Outside of the office, Toddy is a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan who grew up going to games with his father. He still makes the short drive down I-95 to see his Eagles play most games with his dad throughout the fall. —A.C.
