London Kemp Boykin
Director of worldwide real estate development at Amazon
London Kemp’s work for major corporations has taken her from the corporate offices of Cheesecake Factory to her current job as directing the worldwide real estate of e-commerce king Amazon (AMZN). That includes landing deals to procure facilities throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
Kemp’s responsibilities for Amazon range from portfolio strategy, transaction management, project management and vendor team management for Amazon’s global portfolio and Amazon Studios.
Big deals, sales and growth have followed for Amazon in L.A. since Kemp joined the real estate team in December 2020.
In July, Amazon signed a lease for a 202,421-square-foot industrial building about five miles away from an existing Simi Valley site, while also inking a deal for 100,000 square feet in Needham Ranch in Santa Clarita. And the company leased the 155,700-square-foot IAC Commerce Center in October.
Before jumping to Amazon amid the pandemic, the University of Southern California law and Spelman College grad held a similar role at Netflix. Her responsibilities there included administering the streaming giant’s owned and leased production facilities worldwide. Those duties would expand to include overall management and strategic planning for Netflix’s global real estate portfolio, including portfolio optimization, lease administration and transaction management oversight.
For example, Kemp oversaw Netflix’s transition to a new corporate headquarters at Academy on Vine, a $450 million project near Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood that was developed and completed by Kilroy Realty Corp. in 2020. Since then, the lobby alone of Netflix’s HQ has come to be known as the place to see and be seen in show business, according to The New York Times. — M.H.
