Vice president in debt origination at Slate Property Group
Chandrapaul Kurt Latchman was the first employee when Slate Property Group and the Carlyle Group joined to form Slate Property Group’s SCALE Lending. “When I accepted my offer, there wasn’t a deal signed up or done,” he said. “It was just this open commitment, and I thought it could be a really interesting opportunity for me.”
And it ended up being the best business decision he ever made. Latchman got to help grow the debt business into a $2 billion portfolio across more than 25 transactions since 2019.
Latchman specializes in sourcing and originating stretch senior lending opportunities for multifamily and condo construction loans in the New York City area and in South Florida by leveraging debt broker relationships. He also leads underwriting at Slate Property for all of the firm’s real estate construction loans.
His deals in 2022 included the $195 million facility for the acquisition of two land parcels and the subsequent planned construction of a 41-story, 640-unit tower in Miami by Namdar Group.
Born in Guyana, Latchman moved to Queens when he was 5 and has spent nearly all of his life in New York. He graduated from Macaulay Honors College at City University of New York’s Baruch College with a degree in finance and investments.
“I’m a huge fan of mixed-income, affordable housing,” he said, “I think getting people from various backgrounds into the same environment is very important to the overall socioeconomic equality.”
Latchman currently lives in Valley Stream on Long Island with his wife. He says he enjoys running, biking and exploring all of New York City, from the West Village to Flushing, for food and culture. —E.F.
