Colliers is leaving no stone unturned in Southern California, where executives are seeing potential for deals in life sciences, office and retail.
Aaron West in particular has been focusing on San Diego, having transferred in 2023 from Las Vegas, bringing with him a big-picture mindset that starts with a solid office culture and trust in the brokers who report to him.
Since relocating to San Diego, West has recruited a team to focus solely on leasing life sciences space, finalized a 123,492-square-foot industrial lease for Rexford at 8888 Balboa Avenue in that city, and made Colliers the exclusive leasing agent for Symphony Towers at 750 B Street there.
“There was a huge boom after COVID with a ton of life science developers building, and there was a massive, massive influx of tenants to San Diego and a ton of capital and venture capitalist money,” West said. “We’ve kind of seen that dry up a little bit as we’ve seen overdevelopment play out, so now you’re in this weird time period for life science where even though there is still VC funding, there’s just not as many tenants.”
Colliers has essentially been buying the dip in the San Diego life sciences market with the expectation that it will bounce back, according to West.
In the past year, Ricardo Pacheco has launched the Santa Barbara operations for Colliers, arranged a $210 million sale of 601 Figueroa tower in Downtown L.A., and obtained a contract for the firm to be the exclusive leasing agent for the 1.9 million square foot California Market Centers, also in Downtown L.A.
In the Inland Empire, Amanda Spangler has arranged a $257 million sale of 21600 Cactus Avenue in Riverside between BlackRock, the seller, and Burlington Distribution; an 804,803-square-foot lease at IDI Logistics’ Rider Logistics Center at 450 East Rider Street in Perris; and the $202.1 million sale of four industrial properties in Ontario, Fontana and San Bernardino.
David Josker has focused on revenue growth and business expansion through hiring talent and coaching throughout Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington.
