There’s a new kid — or, rather, CEO — on the construction block.

After 23 years at the helm of construction technology pioneer Procore Technologies, founder, Chairman, CEO and President Tooey Courtemanche relinquished the CEO title this past September.

At that time, Procore announced that Ajei Gopal would become the Santa Barbara, Calif.-based software company’s new chief executive, with Courtemanche transitioning out of operational responsibilities to focus on his role as chair of Procore’s board of directors.

In announcing Gopal as Procore’s new CEO, the company noted that he has more than 35 years of proven experience leading global technology companies at scale. From 2017 to 2025, Gopal was president and CEO of Ansys, a developer and marketer of computer-aided and multiphysics engineering simulation software for product design, testing and operations. Under Gopal’s leadership, Ansys more than tripled its revenue, nearly quadrupled its market value, and became a global leader in engineering simulation. It also joined the ranks of the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100, and earned international recognition as a top employer, according to the Procore announcement.

Procore’s technology platform drives efficiency and mitigates risk through AI- and data-driven decision-making, according to the company. More than 3 million projects have run on Procore across over 150 countries.

“Procore is one of the most transformative companies in the market today,” said Gopal at the time he was named CEO. “Its award-winning platform and culture have cemented its status as the clear category leader, revolutionizing one of the world’s most essential yet least digitized industries.

“Like Tooey, I’m passionate about empowering people to build the physical world through digital innovation, and I am deeply inspired by the industry’s sense of purpose and Procore’s deep customer-centricity. Tooey has built a truly exceptional company, and I couldn’t be more honored that he and the board have put their trust in me to lead Procore through its next phase of growth.”
