For Margaux Kelleher, starting her career during the depths of COVID-19 might have been a blessing in disguise.
She originally got an internship at CBRE in its Boston office, but, because of the pandemic, CBRE combined it with the New York team. That was perfect for Kelleher since she knew she wanted to make her way to the bigger city. Plus, the slow market made it easier for Kelleher to network with other brokers.
“It probably gave me a leg up because people were slower and taking calls and informational interviews,” she said.
During that time, Kelleher met with Georgina Cook, who was then at JLL, and landed a job for the brokerage. And, once the market picked up, Kelleher was ready.
She’s been working mainly with hedge funds to find new, albeit smaller, spaces in Class A buildings around New York City.
“It’s been a great experience touring these iconic addresses and putting them in some of those buildings,” Kelleher said. “It’s been great and very satisfying knowing that you’re helping bring somebody to a new office that gets them and their employees excited to return to the office.”
“We ended up helping Mizuho save a lot of money,” Kelleher said.
The Seaport District resident graduated from Providence College and studied abroad in Prague, interning for Cushman & Wakefield’s team there. When not working, Kelleher runs half-marathons, reads, and says she enjoys exploring New York City.
