Jared King, 29
Associate in capital markets at Colliers
Jared King knew he wanted to move to New York from Virginia when he was growing up, but he didn’t know what he wanted to do. So he looked to his older brother.
“He started working in retail leasing, and I started picking his brain about it. It seemed like a business that fit my skill set,” he said.
During his senior year at the University of Richmond, King got an internship at Cushman & Wakefield’s capital markets group in Brooklyn, and fell in love with the analytic and client-facing sides of the work. After stints at Reonomy, a real estate data startup, and investment sales firm B6 Real Estate Advisors, he joined Colliers in 2022 as an analyst and has gotten to work on a multitude of transactions.
“We do sales, debt and equity under one umbrella, which is a unique structure for a capital markets group,” he said. “You get the whole scope of how the market is doing from a debt and equity side. That allows us to be informed on every transaction we work with.”
Lately, King has been working on several deals in the industrial and self-storage sectors. Last summer, King helped Blackstone land a $145 million construction loan for the Altitude Business Center, an industrial property in California’s Inland Empire.
“There’s just so many different angles to every deal, and being thoughtful about the work and identifying creative solutions to really meet and exceed the expectations has been a lot of fun,” he said.
King still spends time with his brother, and plays golf and travels with friends on the weekends. He recently went on golf outings to Georgia and North Carolina. Now New York feels like home.
“In New York there was so much going on, it’s extremely exciting,” he said. “I remember coming here feeling the energy and it really hasn’t changed. It’s a lot of fun being here.”
