Co-founder, CEO and head of product at Northspyre
One of the first successful proptech startups to come out of Brooklyn, Northspyre continues to aspire to greater heights as a real estate development management software platform.
William Sankey co-founded the company seven years ago with the goal of designing technology to enable developers and owners to manage project delivery and capital deployment across their portfolios with greater efficiency and predictability.
“We work with real estate developers and owners across the United States and Canada who specialize in managing ground-up developments, fit-outs and major renovations across all asset classes — including multifamily, office, retail, affordable housing, data centers, hospitality and mixed-use — from deal pursuit through pre-development, construction and stabilization,” Sankey said in an email. “Our customers have reduced project overruns by up to 66 percent and cut administrative tasks by 80 percent by leveraging real-time data for smarter, more efficient operations. Additionally, Northspyre has been used to facilitate more than $200 billion in capital projects.”
That $200 billion includes $50 billion in just the last 12 months, Sankey added.
The Northspyre platform offers a centralized system of records for a project’s life cycle, using automation, analytics and artificial intelligence to facilitate quicker, data-driven decision-making through each development stage. This in turn enables developers to identify and manage risks with greater ease and insight, giving them more control over their project outcomes (because no one likes undue risk in commercial real estate).
Along with its growing customer base, Northsypre has inspired investors such as CRV, Craft Ventures and Tamarisc Ventures to close its Series A and Series B funding rounds in 2020 and 2022, respectively, rounds that totaled $32.5 million.
Sankey helped start Northspyre after working as a New York City developer. While leading projects at firms such as JLL, Madison Realty Capital and Macklowe Properties, he experienced firsthand the challenges of the manual, labor-intensive, spreadsheet-based methods commonly used across the industry to deliver complex real estate projects.
“Frustrated by error-prone reporting, gut-driven decisions, and a lack of real-time visibility,” Sankey said, “I launched Northspyre to help developers become leaner, more effective and consistent across their portfolios.”
