Samuel Salberg, 26
Associate at AmTrust RE
Samuel Salberg wears a lot of different hats at owner AmTrust RE.
In acquisitions, he works on underwriting and due diligence projects; in leasing, he analyzes financials and coordinates landlord, broker and tenant requests during negotiations; and, on the development side, he is responsible for ensuring the financial viability of different redevelopment options, coordinating with vendors, contractors, architects and engineers.
“I like being a generalist, in terms of the variety of the types of deals that we do here,” Salberg said. “There are firms that will only look at office, only look at residential, only look at hotels, and then there’s people who only look at the leasing of the building, people who only look at creating new buildings, people who only look at buying buildings. I have the opportunity to do all of that.”
In less than two years at AmTrust, Salberg has helped close a number of high-profile deals across the firm’s New York portfolio, including an approximately 30,000-square-foot retail lease at 59 Maiden Lane in the Financial District — one of the largest Manhattan retail leases of the year, according to AmTrust.
A native of New Jersey and currently residing in Manhattan, Salberg studied finance and real estate at the University of Maryland. He said he loves dealing with the tangible aspects of real estate, as he’s fascinated by the ins and outs of each property and how they function.
As for what’s next, Salberg said that he looks forward to continue growing AmTrust and delving into the aspects of commercial real estate that he has yet to tackle in his young career.
“There’s so much to learn. … You don’t know what you don’t know, and I’m open to trying anything,” Salberg said. “I think that’s how you progress — trying and taking on new things. You’re the young guy, the low guy on the totem pole, but, if you show that you’re eager to learn and eager to take on that job or project that no one else wanted to do, you might end up loving it or hating it, but you definitely, at the end of it, learned something new.”
