Rossano De Cotiis runs the private family firm based in Vancouver that his late Italian father founded. It’s become one of the busiest developers in L.A., but its president remains an enigma.

Onni is currently taking its landmark Times Mirror Square project through the entitlement process, and gained the L.A. Planning Commission’s support this summer. The 1.5 million-square-foot development will add two towers adjacent to City Hall in Downtown L.A. It’s due to include nearly 1,130 apartments and 307,300 square feet of office space.

The project is about one mile from Onni’s 50-story project at 825 South Hill, with its more than 500 apartments, and that is around the corner from a project that will be one of the tallest buildings in the city when it’s completed in 2022, according to media reports. And that site is a half-mile from Onni’s 730-unit, Hope + Flower project that opened this year. The developer is also working on a 350-unit project with 187,000 square feet of office space in the Downtown Arts District.

Onni has also started expanding its L.A. reach, with work underway on a 231-unit project near Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood that is set to open next year, which will be close to the site of Onni’s proposed 14-story office building. The firm also filed plans to build two high-rise buildings at the landmark Wilshire Courtyard office complex in the Miracle Mile.

Outside of L.A., but still in its orbit, Onni is also working on a hotel in Glendale with about 852 rooms, and the Broadway Block complex in Downtown Long Beach.
